Ceramic Coating in Mount Carroll, IL
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to your clear coat and hardens into a semi-permanent protective layer. It is not a wax and it is not a sealant. Where a wax sits on the paint for a few weeks, a coating becomes part of the surface and stays there for years.
We install Feynlab coatings across three durability levels, plus wheel, trim and glass coatings.
What Every Coating Package Includes
Exterior decontamination detail
The paint is deep cleaned and decontaminated. Prep is the whole game with coatings — a coating bonds to whatever surface it finds, so any contamination left behind gets sealed in underneath for years.
Paint enhancement
A single-stage polish that removes roughly 30 to 50 percent of the defects in your clear coat and exfoliates the paint so the coating can bond properly.
If your paint has more damage than an enhancement will handle, upgrade to a full correction package before coating. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it.
In-house warranty and Premier Care Club
Every coating carries our own in-house warranty and automatic enrolment in the Premier Care Club, our maintenance programme. No membership fee, no add-on cost.
Level 1 Coating
from $600
1+ year / 12,500+ miles
The vehicle goes on the lift and the wheels come off, so the barrels, calipers and wheel wells get cleaned properly rather than just the faces you can see.
Level 2 Coating
from $850
3+ years / 40,000+ miles
The engine bay scrubbed down and the under-hood plastics cleaned and conditioned.
Level 2 Coating
from $1,150
5+ years / 65,000+ miles
Applied to paint, chrome, headlights and taillights. The most durable and highest-performing coating we offer — deep gloss, exceptional hydrophobics and slickness, lasting many years.
Wheel, Trim and Glass Coatings
Wheel-Face Coating — $150 for four wheel faces
2+ years / 25,000+ miles
Applied to all reachable wheel faces. Adds gloss, slickness and makes brake dust far easier to rinse off instead of baking on. Includes in-house warranty.
Full Wheel & Caliper Coating — $250 for four wheels and calipers
2+ years / 25,000+ miles
Applied to all reachable wheel faces. Adds gloss, slickness and makes brake dust far easier to rinse off instead of baking on. Includes in-house warranty.
Plastic Trim Coating — from $100
2+ years / 25,000+ miles
Applied to all reachable black plastic trim. As well as protecting, this coating carries dye that revives and restores faded trim, which is one of the fastest ways to make an older vehicle look years newer.
Glass Coating — from $75
8 to 12 months
Can be applied to any glass surface. Water beads and sheets off at speed, glass stays cleaner for longer, and it makes winter defrosting noticeably easier — which is not a small thing in Northwestern Illinois.
Why Coat a Vehicle in Northwestern Illinois
- Road salt sits on unprotected paint all winter. A coated surface releases it far more readily.
- Bug splatter and tree sap will etch into clear coat if left. On a coated surface they sit on top rather than bonding in.
Gravel and field dust rinse off a coated panel instead of needing to be scrubbed — and scrubbing is what causes swirl marks. - UV fading is slowed considerably, which matters most on red and black vehicles.
What a Coating Will Not Do
It will not make your paint scratch-proof. No coating will. It adds meaningful hardness and resists light marring far better than bare clear coat, but a rock chip is still a rock chip and an automatic car wash will still damage a coated vehicle.
It also is not maintenance-free. A coating needs washing correctly to keep performing — which is exactly why the Premier Care Club exists.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a ceramic coating?
A liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, hydrophobic layer. Unlike wax, which sits on top and washes away, a coating becomes part of the surface.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
Depending on the level: 1+ year and 12,500+ miles at Level 1, 3+ years and 40,000+ miles at Level 2, and 5+ years and 65,000+ miles at Level 3. Wheel and trim coatings run 2+ years, glass coatings 8 to 12 months.
Can a ceramic coating make my car scratch-proof?
No. Any product marketed as scratch-proof is overselling. A coating adds hardness and resists light swirl marks and marring considerably better than bare paint, but it will not stop rock chips or automatic car wash damage.
How is a coating applied?
Not always, and we would rather say so. Level 2 targets 80 to 100 percent of defects. Deep scratches that have gone through the clear coat cannot be polished out — if you can catch a fingernail in it, it is likely too deep. We will tell you what we expect to achieve before we start.
Why should I coat my vehicle?
Three reasons, in order: it is far easier to clean, it protects against salt, UV, sap and bug etching, and it holds gloss for years rather than weeks. On a vehicle you plan to keep, it also protects resale value.
Do I need paint correction first?
Every package includes a paint enhancement, which handles light defects. If your paint has moderate or heavy swirling and scratching, correct it first — a coating seals in whatever is underneath, so any defects left in the paint stay visible for the life of the coating.
What happens after the coating is installed?
You are automatically enrolled in the Premier Care Club, our maintenance programme. There is no fee and no sign-up — if you had your coating done here, you are in it.
