Car Window Tinting in Mount Carroll, IL

Window film does considerably more than change how a vehicle looks. It blocks up to 99 percent of UV, rejects a large share of infrared heat, cuts glare and stops your interior fading and cracking from the inside out.
We install Geoshield and UCA film across the full vehicle or on individual windows.

Illinois Window Tint Law

Illinois is stricter than most states, and it uses a paired system rather than a single number. Your front windows and your rear windows are regulated together, so what is legal up front depends on what you have done behind the driver.

The two legal configurations

  • 35% VLT on the front side windows, paired with at least 35% VLT on the back side and rear windows
  • 50% VLT on the front side windows, paired with at least 30% VLT on the back side and rear windows

Other rules

  • SUVs, vans and multi-purpose vehicles may run any darkness on the glass behind the driver
  • Windshield tint is limited to a non-reflective strip above the AS-1 line — approximately the top 6 inches. There is no configuration in which the rest of the windshield can legally be tinted, at any VLT.
  • Dual side mirrors are required if the rear window is tinted
  • Medical exemptions exist for conditions causing extreme light sensitivity, filed with the Illinois Secretary of State with physician certification

Why the film number is not the final number

Your factory glass already blocks some light before any film goes on. A film rated at 35% VLT will measure lower than 35% once it is on the window, because the law measures film and glass together. We install to legal limits and will tell you exactly what your combined VLT will measure before we start.

Pairs With Ceramic Coating

Tint protects the interior from UV. A ceramic coating protects the exterior. Doing both in one visit is the complete job, and it means one drop-off instead of two.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does window tint last?

Quality film installed properly lasts many years. Geoshield and UCA film does not fade, turn purple or discolour, which is what separates it from cheap dyed film.

Within limits, yes. Illinois pairs front and rear: either 35% VLT front with 35% or lighter rear, or 50% VLT front with 30% or lighter rear. SUVs and vans can go any darkness behind the driver. Windshields are limited to a non-reflective strip above the AS-1 line — full windshield tint is not legal in Illinois at any VLT. We install to legal limits.

No — Illinois law only permits a non-reflective strip above the AS-1 line, roughly the top 6 inches. This is different from some neighbouring states that allow full windshield coverage with a very light film. We install the compliant windshield brow option only.

No. Our film is non-metallic, so it does not affect GPS, Bluetooth, cell signal, tyre pressure sensors or keyless entry.

No. Purple fade happens with cheap dyed films as the dye breaks down under UV. Geoshield and UCA film does not use that construction.

Most vehicles are a few hours. The film needs curing time afterwards, and we will tell you how long to leave the windows up.
